چکیده

OF THE THESIS Spread Spectrum Interference Issues In The MHz ISM Band by Rajnish Sinha Thesis Director Professor Roy D Yates In this thesis we investigate the use of the MHz unlicensed band for wireless communications This band has been allocated by the FCC Federal Communications Commission for industrial scienti c and medical ISM applications Although a li cense is not required to operate in this band one does need to comply with a minimum set of rules laid down by the FCC Due to the high cost of licensing of radio spectrum the unlicensed band o ers a free and attractive alternative to service providers As a consequence this band is witnessing a rapid growth in both the number of systems as well as the diverse technologies being used by them However this latitude comes at a price in the form of susceptibility to excessive mutual interference Since the systems operate independently and do not cooperate with each other it becomes necessary for them to be able to sustain the mutual interference Among the various products operating in the ISM band this thesis will focus on a particular class of products designated by the FCC as the Devices Part devices include wireless LANs Cordless phones and automatic meter readers

iSCISM: Interference Sensing and Coexistence in the ISM Band

1. Introduction A multitude of commercial devices transmit in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz ISM band, and these devices are likely to interfere with each other. These effects are compounded in highly populated metropolitan areas with large numbers of microwave ovens, Bluetooth devices, cord-less phones, wireless game controllers, and other devices which occupy the ISM band. This contributes to an ever...

IEEE 802.15.1 Simulation and BER Analysis under the Interference

There is increasing interest in wireless ad-hoc networks built from portable devices equipped with short-range wireless network interfaces. IEEE 802.11b WLAN (Wi-Fi) and IEEE 802.15.1 WPAN (Bluetooth) are popular wireless emerging technologies. These technologies migrates wired system applications into the wireless domain. Applications includes, computing, sensing, and communication. Growth in ...

Spectrum Sharing in an ISM Band: Outage Performance of a Hybrid DS/FH Spread Spectrum System with Beamforming

This paper investigates spectrum sharing issues in the unlicensed industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) bands. It presents a radio frequency measurement setup and measurement results in 2.4 GHz. It then develops an analytical model to characterize the coexistence interference in the ISM bands, based on radio frequency measurement results in the 2.4 GHz. Outage performance using the interfer...

IEEE P802.11 Wireless LANs Effects of Microwave Interference On IEEE 802.11 WLAN Reliability

The influence of microwave oven interference on IEEE802.11 Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) performance is a significant factor because they share common spectrum in the 2.400 2.4835 GHz Industry, Science, and Medicine (ISM) band. FCC regulations permit radiated power of up to 1 watt in this band provided spread spectrum techniques are employed. Spread spectrum methods facilitate multiple use...

Interference In Bluetooth And Methods To Avoid It

Bluetooth is a wireless technology that enables devices to communicate in the 2.4 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) license free frequency band. Bluetooth avoid the interference by using a frequency hopping (FH) spread spectrum technology with hop rate of 1600 hops per second. This paper studies schemes to avoid local interference observed by the devices. It tries to come up with a ...
